Jimmy Verner successfully defended the appeal of a Hague Convention case in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, in New Orleans. In that case, the Venezuelan parents decided to relocate their children to the United States because of danger and political turmoil in Venezuela. When they arrived in the United States, the father, a medical doctor, learned that he would have to undergo years of additional training to practice medicine in the United States. The parents then decided that the father would go to Spain, where he was a dual citizen, to look for work there. The mother and the children would join him there. But the father changed his mind and returned to Venezuela. The courts held that the children need not return to Venezuela because the parents’ last shared intent was that the children stay in the United States.
